Hailey’s Harp-Cade – Drinks, Bar Bites, Arcade Games, Metuchen
I love arcades. I LOVE arcades. Maybe it’s because I never grew up, maybe it’s because they remind me of my childhood, or maybe they’re just awesome. I’m gonna have to go with awesome. I enjoy games of all sorts but I don’t enjoy waiting in line behind throngs of mini-humans who don’t know how to share. Kids are great, I just don’t want them in my arcade. Barcade is great for that. The bar/arcade hybrid has two locations – Newark and Jersey City. You can learn a bit more about Barcade here.
But what if you’re located in Central Jersey? While you can certainly make a trek up north for a night, there’s something closer. Hailey’s Harp-cade is a bar and retro arcade hybrid, connected to an Irish pub. Enjoy games from Space Invaders to Skee Ball, Pac Man to Pinball. Donkey Kong, Galaga, Asteroids…they’re all there. So are kiddos, but not so much at night. Open Tuesday – Sunday until 10 p.m., they have extended hours (’til midnight) on Friday and Saturday. Admission is free but bring your quarters.
On the menu, you’ll find mouthwatering foods that pair well with booze including buffalo calamari, fried pickles, pizza and even filet mignon bites. Burgers come in several varieties including a veggie option and the chicken and waffles with cajun honey are just so yummy. If you’re craving more traditional Irish fare, grab some bangers and mash at the adjoining pub. You’ll find Hailey’s Harp-cade at 15 Station Place in Metuchen. Visit on 11/24 for a ’70s disco party.
